Twitter Crypto-Ad Ban Takes Effect Today

The hope is that fairy bans help protect vulnerable investors from deceptive campaigns by fraudulent companies. The ban, which comes into effect Today will take 30 days to be rolled out, covers advertising of initial coin offerings (ICOs) and token sales, the company told Reuters on Monday.

“We are committed to ensuring the safety of the Twitter community. As such, we have added a new policy for Twitter Ads relating to cryptocurrency,” a Twitter spokesperson told CNBC Monday. “Under this new policy, the advertisement of Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and token sales will be prohibited globally.”

The news confirms the rumors circulating in the beginning of this month that Twitter follows the likes of Facebook and Google and their notices of prohibition of cryptocurrency ads.
Cryptocurrency and wallet services are likely to be provided by a public company, and in Japan, these will be limited to crypto-regulated exchanges by the country’s Financial Services Agency, said the Twitter spokesperson.

Twitter had said earlier this month that it was taking measures to prevent crypto-related accounts from “engaging with others in a deceptive manner”.
But despite Today’s ban, the company’s CEO Jack Dorsey suggested earlier this week that bitcoin would be the leading currency within 10 years.
