Pascal Boyart, a French street artist, attracted the attention of the digital world by offering creative’s a new and viable option to generate income, by taking Bitcoin to the art world.

The mural painter known by the nickname ‘PBOY’ is incorporating bitcoin QR codes into his works of art. This allows him to receive donations from the public in crypto. Boyart managed to earn revenues from his murals without needing an exhibition in a gallery.

The French street artist recently made a name for himself when one of his murals became a trending topic in the Bitcoin subreddit. Many Redditors were impressed not just with his talent but with the melding of art and bitcoin.

“I first included a Bitcoin QR code in my work in November 2017,” Boyart told Hard Fork. “I painted a street art piece of a child asking his father ‘Dad, what is money?’ and I placed a QR code at the side of my signature.”

“I wasn’t sure if someone had done this already, but I wanted to see if people could support street artists with donations,” the artists added. “I did it as homage to Andreas Antonopoulos’ book The Internet of Money.”

Apart from adding bitcoin QR codes to his paintings, Boyart also explores themes related to cryptos and decentralization in his work. The artwork that made Boyart popular on Reddit was a mural painting of Rembrandt, the famous Dutch painter.

So far, Boyart has received more than 0.11 bitcoins (approximately $ 1,000) in donations. The artist describes himself as an enthusiast of cryptography and says that the creative industry has much to take advantage of decentralization. According to Boyart, artists can take advantage of the new economic paradigm made possible by Bitcoin technology.

The Bitcoin QR code was a part of a growing movement artists have been using to replace the need to depend on galleries and dealers.
They are using crowdfunded services such as Ulule and Patreon. These services are providing artists with the opportunity to achieve improved financial independence.
