Authorities of the London Cybercrime Department have confiscated half a million pounds ($667,000) worth of bitcoin from a prolific computer hacker, Bloomberg reported.

Cybercrime detectives seized the bitcoin from 26 year old Grant West, who recently received a 10 years and 8 months jail sentence for attacking over 100 companies worldwide, largely using ‘phishing’ email scams to obtain the financial data.

According to the report, West had collected financial data from the targeted companies and sold to market places on the dark web, then converting his profits into bitcoin,.

The London Metropolitan police have discovered evidence of cyberattacks on 17 major firms including a Finnish bitcoin exchange. Officers also recovered a memory card containing approximately 78 million individual usernames and passwords.
