Gemini Cryptocurrency Exchange Hires NYSE Chief Information Officer
Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, announced that Robert Cornish, former Information Director of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), has joined the company as its first Chief Technology Officer.
Robert Cornish was NYSE’s chief information officer, a position that oversaw the ongoing e-commerce review of the Big Board. He has held various senior positions at the International Securities Exchange, and was named by Institutional Investor as a “Trading Technology Top 40” Financial Services executive. Cornish would be responsible for leading Gemini’s technology team and strategy.
Tyler Winklevoss, Chief Executive Officer of Gemini, said in the statement that Cornish will “ensure that Gemini continues to deliver the best platform experience to our customers as possible and set the standards of excellence for the cryptocurrency industry as a whole.”
Cornish joins others such as former Goldman Sachs employees Richard Kim and Michael Bucella in leaving Wall Street to join cryptocurrency focused start-ups.
Mr. Cornish joins at a time of incredible growth for Gemini, which recently became the first licensed Zcash exchange in the world to obtain approval from NYDFS to offer trading and custody services for Zcash to its customers and also to offer Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin for trading and custody.
Gemini has consistently taken steps to ensure they are compliant with state and federal legislation, touting it as a main feature of the platform.
