Chief Strategy Officer of Bitfinex Leaves the Company
Phil Potter the Chief Strategy Officer of Bitfinex exchange has announced he will be leaving the company. And he would be replaced by Jan Ludovicus van der Velde, Bitfinex’s CEO.
Potter was quoted saying:
As Bitfinex pivots away from the U.S., I felt that, as a U.S. person, it was time for me to rethink my position as a member of the executive team. It’s been an incredible journey over these past four years, and while I wish my colleagues success and good fortune in their ongoing endeavours, I am also looking forward to new opportunities for myself in the days ahead.”
Owned by a company in the British Virgin Islands, Bitfinex is the fourth-largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world by trading volume. It enables traders to buy and sell virtual currencies such as bitcoin and ether.
Bitfinex has been the subject of constant controversy over the past year due to its close ties to Tether and EOS. Many critics claim that Tether, with a cryptocurrency supported by USD 1, does not have a complete reserve and is in fact operating in a fractional reserve system.
