The worlds-leading cryptocurrency exchange Binance has announced a $1 million West Japan Disaster Relief Donation in support of residents hit by the recent floods.

According to the latest report from The Guardian, the number of people who lost their lives in floods and landslides in Japan has surged to 94 on Monday and is expected to exceed 100 as dozens of people are still missing.

In an online post, Binance said:

“To help out the victims in West Japan that were affected by the heavy rains on 7/7/2018, Binance is donating $1,000,000 USD and calling for our crypto friends and partners to join us in the relief initiative.”

Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao noted that the donation will be made in the equivalent of BNB, BTC or the Japanese Yuan (JPY). Those who wish to contribute to the initiative can “Send ETH or ERC20 tokens you want to donate directly to the Binance donation address 0xA73d9021f67931563fDfe3E8f66261086319a1FC,” Binance added.

“All outgoing transactions from the Binance donation address will be explained by Binance and used for charity purposes only.”

In a series of a tweet, Zhao revealed the intention to build a more systematic mechanism for charitable initiatives in the future.

According to the details from etherscan.io, $1,129,281.86 has been raised for the initiative so far.
